Update 6/15/22:

RHONDA IS STILL MISSING!! THERE HAVE BEEN NO CONFIRMED SIGHTINGS SO PLEASE IF YOU THINK YOU SPOT HER REGARDLESS OF WHERE SHE IS, ***SNAP A PICTURE FROM A DISTANCE AND CALL RIGHT AWAY!!! PLEASE DO NOT STOP LOOKING EVEN IF YOU HEAR THERE HAVE BEEN SIGHTINGS IN ANOTHER TOWN MILES AWAY. This may not be true, so please don’t assume anything.

PLEASE DONT POST ANY SIGHTINGS TO ANY SOCIAL MEDIA, CALL NUMBERS ONLY.

Remember Rhonda has been out on her own for since May 11th so she may not look as pretty as the picture because of the harsh weather and the different terrain she has been in.

Please check in with your neighbors, friends and family in case they didn’t know she is a lost dog and may be taking care of her.

***SEARCH AREA IS AT LEAST 150 MILE RADIUS OR MORE AROUND POTSDAM, NY but could be anywhere. *** LAST CONFIRMED SIGHTING IN POTSDAM, NY on 5/19/22**. See Rhonda’s story below.

If you spot her, PLEASE STAY IN THE CAR, DO NOT CALL, DO NOT WHISTLE, or DO NOT TRY TO GET HER ATTENTION IN ANY WAY, NO EYE CONTACT and ESPECIALLY DO NOT TRY TO CHASE HER, it triggers a fear response that causes her to bolt, pushing her further away and she could end up getting hit by a car. CONTACT BOTH NUMBERS ON THE POSTER ASAP(Owner 315-705-8875/Animal Control Officer 315-323-4550)any time of day or night with any sighting or information; reach voicemail, leave date, time and address/location of sighting. KEEP EYES ON HER FROM A DISTANCE. Snap a picture if possible. ***AGAIN, PLEASE DONT POST SIGHTING TO SOCIAL MEDIA, CALL NUMBERS ONLY**

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! She could easily be anywhere in any surrounding counties in New York, Vermont, Ontario and Quebec.

**RHONDA’S STORY**
Rhonda, a 2 year old female Bernese mountain dog was last seen by the Potsdam Morley Rd and Route 11 on Thursday May 19th 2022 and “possibly” in Canton on route 27 on 5/20. She has been missing from Massena, NY by the mall since Wed. May 11, 2022 where she was being transported from Ohio to her new owner. The transporters did not secure her correctly; she got scared and took off.

She has been spotted in several towns/villages miles away from the Massena area since 5/16/22 and is capable of traveling double digit miles in less than a day. She is not familiar with this area and is friendly but very scared and disoriented. She is desperately trying to find her old family from Ohio and both her families are desperately trying to find her.

*TELL FRIENDS, FAMILY, NEIGHBORS AND FARMERS IN THE SEARCH AREA, TO CHECK RING DOORBELLS AND BUSINESS VIDEO MONITORING, “TRAIL CAMS” AND “TRAP LINES” FREQUENTLY! * Look closely at monitoring video’s from May 19-20, especially in the area on Morley- Potsdam road and going down Route 11.

EVERYONE CHECK YOUR PROPERTY INCLUDING YOUR WOODS, FIELDS, GARAGES, BARNS, SHEDS OR OTHER OUT BUILDINGS, UNDER DECKS AND PORCHES WHERE SHE COULD BE TRAPPED OR INJURED. LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL OF THE SIDE ROADS OFF MORLEY-POTSDAM ROAD AND ROUTE 11. IF YOU’RE TAKING A WALK, LOOK AT THE AREA OFF THE SIDES OF THE ROAD. If you’re driving in your community or in another town within search area during the day but more importantly at night especially on less traveled rural side roads, please be aware and keep your eyes out for Rhonda. Stay in car and call #’s ASAP if spotted. The more eyes we have out there, the better chance she will be spotted again.

IF YOU’RE HEADING OUT TO HIKE, VISIT PARKS OR CAMPGROUNDS anywhere in Central New York, Thousands Islands, the Adirondacks, the North Country ,Ontario and Quebec close to the New York border, please print a few Colored or B&W flyer’s and put in a gallon size Ziploc bag or plastic sheet protectors and hang on bulletin boards and trees by main areas and trails.

Not everyone has social media; email, text or give the info and/or flyer to all your family and friends within the new search radius and beyond, ask them to share it with everyone anyway way they can. SHARE on your Local town or Village FACEBOOK sites!!! Please also share information with the Farmers and the Amish in your community.

There is a very good chance she has been seen out of the original area but there are no signs, flyers or postings about her missing on social media in those towns. People also may not know she is a lost dog or who to call. ***SO IMPORTANT TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT TO ALL THE TOWNS AROUND SEARCH AREA IN NEW YORK, VERMONT AND TOWNS IN ONTARIO and QUEBEC BORDERING NEW YORK***

IT’S BEST IF WE CAN GET AHEAD OF RHONDA IN HER TRAVELS AND PASS OUT HER INFORMATION TO ALL COMMUNITIES SO THEY ARE AWARE OF HER SITUATION SO IF OR WHEN SHE ARRIVES IN THAT AREA, THE PROPER CONTACTS GET NOTIFIED. See Potsdam Humane Society Facebook or this Facebook for up to date info.

EVERYONE KEEPS ASKING HOW CAN I HELP?

HELP NEEDED IN THESE AREAS:
Feel free to print B&W or color flyers and hand out to neighbors, mail carriers, FedEx and UPS drivers and post at businesses, hardware stores & lumber yards, gas stations, ice cream shops, police stations, vets, shelters in your own community.

We understand that some people may not be aware of Rhonda and her situation and may just post about seeing a dog. If you see individual posts like this on Facebook, in the newspaper or any other site about a dog that looks like Rhonda, please contact them and have them reach out to ACO and Owner right away. THESE POSTS MAY BE MISSED or SEEN HOURS OR DAYS LATER.

Here are some areas that we would greatly appreciate any help you can offer since we have to expand the search area to stay ahead of her:
– Distributing B&W flyers to all homes especially in rural areas. Remember, it’s illegal to put flyers in mailboxes but okay in the newspaper box; otherwise you have to go door to door.
– Is anyone is willing to help by going to businesses and asking them to post the flyers in their windows-
– Help stand the 18 x24 signs in areas around main intersections and roads in the coverage area. Please ask before posting on private property.
– If you know anyone in the AMISH community, please let them know and give them a flyer and ask them to spread the word.
– Contact any Farms within the coverage area.

Do you have contacts at any of the groups below? Can you go in person, contact by phone or email; ask them to send out the information/flyer on Rhonda to all employees and post on bulletin boards in office/ locations where employees dispatch from.

-School districts including the Bus Garages to hand out to Bus Drivers throughout the coverage area, Colleges and Universities, UPS, Fed Ex and Post Offices in towns, villages and hamlets ask them to distribute to all their delivery drivers and mail carriers, Department of Public Works offices in towns and villages, Highway Departments (if an animal is hit, their maintenance departments are called out),DEC, Electric and Gas companies, Police, Sheriff and State Police offices – Local newspapers and small weekly flyers,- Rescue groups, Dog Groomers, Humane Societies, Shelters, Animal Control Officers and Vets.

Flyers being distributed would allow the local police, sheriff and state police officers, USPS, UPS and FedEx drivers to have the photo/ contact info handy if they happened to see her during their shift. We are not asking law enforcement to search for a lost dog, if she is seen during a routine shift within St. Lawrence or surrounding counties at any time 24 hours a day, just please contact both numbers on the flyer.

Contact helpfindrhonda@gmail.com if you would like to help in any way. We would like to keep track of who is helping in what town to avoid duplicating efforts.

Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of support from the community and beyond!
