What a merry chase this one led me on. First reported sightings around July 1, this boy moved often, and quickly, skirting human attention, and never lingering long enough in one place to deploy feeding stations or traps…but the sightings kept rolling in, contained to a 2 mile radius in West Saugerties.
Until 3 days ago, he wandered into a local residents home through an open dog door and helped himself to the contents of their garbage and fridge…all caught on Ring Camera.
Apparently feeling this jackpot was worth a second chance, he stuck around. The property owner, away for several days, granted me permission to do my thing…
This Wiley boy managed to feast upon a bounty in traps without triggering them, until I ultimately impaled his favorite treat (Nathan’s Hot dogs) on the wire mesh throughout the trap. It worked, and at 10pm last night, he was caught.
He is, for now, named Nathan, after the hot dogs that lured him back to society. He is safe at Town of Saugerties Animal Shelter.
Thank you all for your diligent reporting of sightings, and particular thanks to those willing to set up feeding stations, and finally to the owner of the property where he was ultimately caught.
He’s a sweet boy, and if unclaimed by an owner, will need a new family. Please, have a fence, lol.
